AI Safety
Simple rules for using AI safely and confidently.

AI is a tool, and tools have rules
Using AI is safe when you follow a few common-sense rules, the same way driving is safe when you wear a seatbelt. None of these rules are complicated, and after a week or two they become automatic.
Rule 1: Double-check important facts
AI assistants sometimes state wrong information with complete confidence. This is their biggest weakness. For everyday things like recipe ideas or letter writing, it rarely matters. But for anything involving health, money, law, or safety, treat the AI's answer as a helpful starting point and verify it with an official source or a professional.
Rule 2: AI is not your doctor, lawyer, or financial advisor
AI is wonderful for understanding medical terms, preparing questions for appointments, and decoding confusing paperwork. It is not a replacement for professionals who know your specific situation. A good habit: use AI to prepare for expert conversations, not to replace them.
Rule 3: Watch out for AI used against you
Scammers now use AI too: to write convincing fake emails and even to imitate voices on the phone. If you get an urgent call or message asking for money or personal information, even one that sounds like a family member, hang up and call that person back at their regular number. Agree on a family code word for real emergencies.
The old scam warning signs still apply: urgency, secrecy, requests for gift cards or wire transfers, and 'do not tell anyone.' AI makes scams smoother, but it does not change what they are asking for.
Rule 4: You are in charge
AI suggests; you decide. Never let any tool rush you into a decision. If an answer feels off, ask again, ask differently, or ask a person you trust. Healthy skepticism is not rudeness; it is wisdom.
